Dog Grooming Duncan Supply Overview

By Matthew Clark

So you've decided to go the home dog grooming route in order to save bucks, right? Well, you'll need some good dog grooming tips before you even go near your dog with a pair of clippers or scissors! These are the right equipment to use and dog grooming Duncan tips so that your dog is groomed safely and comes out looking pristine.

Shampoos- Dogs have special needs and a good pH balance must be maintained to keep their skin and coat healthy. Shampoos also help remove dander and dead hair and can keep your canine smelling fresh for a long time. Some formulations can also correct skin irritations like eczema and dermatitis and combat parasites. Some great brands to try are Bio Guard Gentle Shampoo, Veterinarian's Best Hot Spot Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Veterinary Formula Canine Shampoo. For those pesky parasites, try Adams Flea & Tick Shampoo

In general, short haired pets like Boston Terriers can be groomed every two weeks, but longer haired pets like Schnauzers need to be groomed at least weekly for this reason. Of course there is a big difference between pets that spend their time outdoors and pets that spend their time indoors. Most pets who are outdoor pets will need to be bathed every five days or so.

Inside pets generally require less bathing. Also you will find that you need to groom your pet with greater frequency as he ages. Older pets tend to shed hair faster and smell bad more often. If you are new to pet ownership and therefore pet cleaning as well, don't worry.

Bathing- I cover this topic in more detail in another post, but basically you need a tub that's suitable for your pet's size. Fill it with warm water. If your pet doesn't like being put in water, have a bucket of warm water handy. Now, get your non-slip mat, a plastic jug, a towel or hair dryer (depending on the coat of the pet) and canine shampoo. There are many types shampoo on the market. For instance, if your pet has fleas and ticks, get a shampoo for that. If your pet has a skin condition, get a shampoo that provides relief for it.

Nail Clippers- It's important to cut a canine's nails regularly because long nails will push a canine's feet backwards and might result to physical problems later on. Longer nails also tend to break easily and cause bleeding.

Make sure, though, that you use the proper cleaning products. For instance, it is really not a good idea to use human shampoo for your pet. Sure it may work to clean his hair, but the levels of pH in human shampoo is stronger than the pH level of petgie shampoo. Therefore, if you continuously use human shampoo on your pet, you can actually give him dry itchy skin.

Conditioner- Conditioners are great for pet owners who want to give their canine's coat some extra shine and protection. Try Earthbath Totally Natural Pet Conditioner and the 'whitening' 8-in-1 Perfect Coat Conditioner for Canines. Veterinarian's Best Moisture Mist Leave-On Conditioner is also a must-try.
