By Lisa Powell

Being a teacher is a challenging and noble profession. Teachers will face several easy and even difficult challenges just to mold their students into becoming a good citizen in the society. Without them, for sure no one will become a successful doctor, engineers and other professionals. Anyone will also need someone who is more knowledgeable than them for them to learn something. When it comes to learning language as well, people will usually need someone who knows better to teach them about it. Because of that, many international individuals would like to enroll for online English Lessons and go with newcomer ESL curriculum.

Perhaps you might consider the job in which you will be an ESL teacher. It might be tough and intimidating for you especially when you are still new to it. Nevertheless, almost all experts have undergone some heavy nervousness while working before they became professional. Therefore, you still can pull it off by practicing a lot. Furthermore, below are the tips you should follow to become an efficient educator in your class.

Building rapport is surely the first way for you to connect with your learners. At times, they might be awkward at first and also intimidated by your presence. You can start up by introducing yourself and then have them follow you. You could also use some ice breakers and motivational activities to energize them.

Second, it would be better if you know about their background. Try to know what their interest in life are so you could use it to make them motivated. You may also do a diagnostic test at some point so you would know which part is definitely simple and hard for them.

Whenever you give them instructions, make your words very simple and clear. That way, they could understand you better. Aside from that, use some gestures to elaborate what you want them to understand. Avoid being rude to them and sound so demanding. Be polite and encouraging.

Fourth, you must let them answer some drills and do repetitions. Repeating the words and sentences over again is a good method to let them practice on speaking those words. It would be boring but you can use other strategies to make it livelier.

Introducing them with new words each day could help them expound their vocabulary. Every day, give them some word-of-the-day segment. Introduce them the word, give pronunciation, tell the meaning then have your students pronounce it. This could certainly increase their vocabulary.

Lastly, never underestimate them. They might not be good with English but they are really fluent with their native language. So as much as possible, help them in every way. Instead of asking them to say something, show them something that they will understand.

With those tips being mentioned, it would certainly help you to become better. Be ready always for the challenges. Lastly, keep your patience as well when you teach them.
