For, it is believed that by using a couch, the individual can often relax and go deeper into the unconscious. As such, there are more therapeutic gains when providing this type environment.

These include, problems such as compulsive disorders in which the individual repeats specific actions on an ongoing or repetitive basis. Whereas, there are other individuals whom simply want to understand why choices have often been negative rather than positive. For example, those whom have consistently attempted to eliminate negative habits, though never being able to do so.

One of the most common reasons an individual visits this type of professional is determine the cause or reason for a negative action or actions. Whereas, there are also those whom have repeatedly tried to quite bad habits, only to return over and over again. As a result, these individuals can often be puzzled as to the cause for an addiction such as alcoholism, drugs or gambling, bad habits or violent outbreaks.

For, these individuals are licensed mental health providers who have completed psychoanalytic training. In most cases, those working in these positions have had a minimum of five years training as a psychoanalytic candidate. In addition, as these individuals are provided with a thorough education in pathological and normal development, most are very good at working with individuals in need of this type of assistance.
