Guides In Keeping Yourself Safe During An Alligator Tour

By Christine King

Alligators are crocodilian reptiles with adults mostly having a black or dark brown color with their undersides being white. There is no record for their average lifespan and they are only native to United States and China. They live in freshwater environments like swamps, lakes, rivers, wetlands, marshes and ponds and the holes they made increase plant diversity.

They improve also the ecology through feeding on those animals causing severe damages in coastal wetlands like the grazing muskrat and coypu. Louisiana alligator tour is available for you to go and see these animals and reptiles. The following are several guides for keeping yourself safe while you enjoy watching them during your tour.

They are normally afraid of humans though feeding them with food other than their natural prey will make them seek people out instead. So feeding them is not allowed so keep your food instead to yourself so they would not approach anyone or destroy the natural habits they have. This applies also for other animals in the area.

Be careful when mating season happens, during months of spring and summer, as they do unusual things and be somewhat edgy. They leave their territories only at this time in search for females which makes larger alligators more frequent in places they normally not go. Just leave them alone, ignore them or give them space.

Keep your distance because they could move fast even if they seem to look lazy and slow while lounging at their spot. You are too close when they hiss or lunge at you so stay away for at least sixty feet from them. Do not disturb their nest or their babies because their mom is ready always nearby to protect them.

Their habitats have refreshing and cool areas of water that can entice anybody to swim when they ride on a boat. But if you could not see your arms, feet and legs then avoid swimming there because there may be nearby alligators. Stick instead to shallow crystal clear waters because these places are safer.

Be careful when you fish near their habitat because alligators would try and grab that hooked fish which can caught them in your line. Avoid fishing in areas near the water edge with heavy vegetation where they prefer to stay. Catching them with a line is dangerous and is not something you would want as you could get dragged down.

If you like bringing your pet dog along fishing or boating them always keep them on the leash particularly when disembarking your boat. This prevents them from running away alone specially at mating seasons as they could be prey. It will put you in danger also when you chase them because your surroundings might become hard to notice and these animals may be disturbed.

Plan your trip to these places by booking in advance at a nearby hotel or cottage with rental boats available. Others have guided tours just for sightseeing the diverse habitat of these animals and enjoy the environment. Check in advance the reviews of previous customers of these tours.
